Global hotkeys for Spotify

I just recently got an invite for Spotify. Trying it out I'm so far very pleased, but being used to Winamps Global Hotkeys-feature I was somewhat annoyed that this was not something Spotify supported in their player.

However, after some googling I found information that the player does support Media Keys (play/pause/volume/etc). To my frustration neither my computer at work, nor my private laptop, has any media keys.

More googling led me to a neat little program called Keyboard Remapper. Using this I now use F12 as "play/pause" and F11 as "next song".

Took me forever to understand how you did it, for the rest of the people, make a new hotkey mine is F5 and pick the "change key to:" option and scroll down to "MediaPlay/Pause" entry in the dropdown menu. This will make F5 global hotkey for play / pause in spotify. Same can be done with all the other Media hotkeys

ntt: Thanks for pointing this out!
Yes, click the "Add New Key Combination"-button, and select keys/remapping as described in the comment above.

I would recommend this AutoHotkey script, it's great for both this purpose and as a general purpose tool.
